Four athletes have the chance to win a spot at the sold out 2013 Ironman Lake Tahoe. The event sold out in less than 24 hours last June with 2,600 participants. It’s the first full-distance Ironman event in California since 2001 and the only one on the West Coast of the United States. Ironman Lake Tahoe is scheduled to take place September 22, 2013. The contest was announced November 8, 2012.
Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association said, “They cannot be purchased for any amount of money. These four additional slots will go to the most deserving of athletes, providing them with the chance to test their endurance among some of the world’s finest competitors in North Lake Tahoe come fall.”
The contest, titled “What Drives Your Personal Ironman Quest/Race/Triathlon?,” launches on November 8, 2012, and runs through December 7, 2012. All contestants must submit a picture and a corresponding caption (up to 250 characters) via the North Lake Tahoe Facebook page about why they should be selected for one of the coveted spots. Ten finalists will be chosen and then asked to create a 3-minute video that describes their story. North Lake Tahoe Facebook fans will vote, December 21 to January 6, 2013, and those four with the highest scores, which also includes one slot for a Lake Tahoe resident, will receive entry to Ironman Lake Tahoe. The winners will be announced January 7, 2013. Click here to view the contest.
