Swimming Challenge - Swim Meister Tony

Direct from Swim Meister Tony, MOVY participates in the USMS 5K/10K postal swim meet!

This is an opportunity for those of you that like the challenge of the longer swims! Also a good chance to get an outdoor swim in before pools open on Memorial Day weekend. These postal events are kind of a remote swim meet, where you swim where ever you are, and mail in your results to see how you compare to others across the nation. If you can’t make it on May 22, you can do it on your own anytime between now and September 15. All you need is access to a 50 meter pool, and a friend with a stop watch.

2011 will make the 6th year the MOVY has actively participated in the USMS 5K/10K postal swim meet. Each Spring or early Summer we reserve a long course meters pool to hold a time trail for the 5K/10K postal. So here is your opportunity to challenge yourself:

Where: Roeland Park Aquatic Center, 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park KS 66205

When: Sunday 22-May-11, first heat at 11:15am and second heat at ~12:45pm. Please arrive by 11am with paperwork completed. RPAC has the capacity to heat the water if the early spring air is cool, but we anticipate the pool to be 78-80 F (good for a long swim).

Note: Waterpolo has a workout from 9:30-11am, so we will start after they are done.

How Much: To cover pool time and supplies, $7.50/swimmer and entry fee for event is $10. Checks can be written for the whole amount to "MOVY Masters" and cash will be accepted. MOVY will enter your splits and time into the on-line entry, and MOVY will pay for relays into the event.

Bring: Comfortable swimwear that is FINA approved. Many swimmer also like to have some "body glide" to prevent chaffing during the long swims. Many swimmer like to have two or more pairs of goggles. With mid-day swim we also encourage everyone to wear sunblock. Bring a helper with you to support the timing and split taking; but if you cannot find someone to help, come anyway, as we find ways to cover all the timing and splits.

What else: Reserve your lane by e-mailling the coordinator: Anthony Thompson, swimtotoswim@msn.com or call and leave a message at 913 262 2464.

What if: The postal swim event goes from 15-May-11 to 15-Sept-11; so if you cannot make this time trail 22-May-11, we encourage you to complete this fitness challenge at your own pool and follow the on-line instructions below.
