So, I'm playing around setting up a new domain name for the blog.

Does this screw up google reader and all of that? Will you guys still get updates via google reader?

If you setup a new blogger site, it will jack it up. If you apply man-versus-traithlon.com as the domain name to falkeetriathlon.blogpsot.com, then I am pretty sure it will work OK. (Settings -> Publishing)
Not that I have anything against *.blogspot.com names, but I think it's always better to have an actual domain name. It's not that difficult to setup and it is fairly cheap. Granted I definitely see the conundrum of already having a well groomed readership and making a change like this.
You have plenty of PR techniques with your newsletter and twitter account that people will likely make the change if it does negatively effective RSS readers.
