Swim Meister Tony and the Swimming World Championships

Swim Meister Tony is busy planning his day around the Swimming World Championships.

From Tony :

The U.S. Swim Team is now in Shanghai, China for World Championships. As promised I did find the television schedule. There will be broadcasts on NBC, Sunday the 24th at 1:00 pm, Saturday the 30th at Noon, and Sunday the 31st at Noon. Yep, my DVR is already set. This will show finals of most events. You can get all of the action on the webcasts for a fee. Find more details on the meet here. This will be an exciting meet, and will get you familiar with a lot of the new names that will be in London next summer.

Of course this meet includes some huge names like Natalie Coughlin, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps. Some other interesting names to watch, Dagney Knutson from Minot, ND (yes, her family’s home is underwater), cancer survivor Eric Shanteau, 35 year old Jason Lezak, and Mike Alexandrov, who could easily make the Olympic team for his birthplace of Bulgaria , but has chosen to take his shot at making the U.S. Olympic team, which will be significantly more challenging.
This morning Natalie Coughlin posted this on Twitter:
“Here's a pic of the competition pool. Reminds me of Omaha.”

How cool is that? Next summer you could swim in a pool in an arena that looks very similar to where the World Championships were held!

With the heat continuing and no rain, I want to remind everyone again to bring water bottles to practice. Most have been doing a good job of remembering, and we have adjusted the intervals, so attendance has been pretty good and misery loves company, so come on out to the pool to get ready for our Ad Astra Long Course meet (possible the last one), in Lenexa on Saturday, July 30th.
Click here for information about this fun meet that we have hosted the last 5 or 6 years, but will probably need to find a different option next year as the age group Division I meet will be in Wichita next year. Oh yeah, how about going to Masters Nationals in Omaha next year?!? The meet will be held in the Olympic Trials pool after Olympic Trials. Imagine swimming in the same pool as our future Gold medalists. You’ve got over a year to get ready, but there is already information on the USMS website.
I also have one more opportunity that some of you might be interested in. I have attached information about swim instructor positions opening up at Elite Gymnastics and Aquatics in Lenexa. The aquatics manager there told me that she has had some quality instructors over the past several years who were college age and they have a high turnover. They usually work 12-20 hours per week, and she is looking for people with aquatic experience that may have more longevity, so she asked me to see if any of our masters would be interested. If you are interested in the opportunity, contact Gina Skiles at (913) 469-5554.
