Ebay "resolved" for now, off season

Finally Ebayers get on  board...
The auction item I won was shipped yesterday ending the "stand off" about trying to charge me extra for shipping.  I refused to pay since it was not disclosed in auction, and they shipped instead of drawing it out.  Now... should be interesting to make sure it comes in with no "consequences".  No damage, everything that the auction listed and with no postage due.

Anyone know if their is a customs charge for stuff from Canada?  Eh?

The off-season means different things to different athletes...
I don't have 20 hours a week to train.  I get in around 8 to 10 a week and 13 to 15 for build weeks for half ironman distances.  My off season is a mix of taking it easy and losing some structure and then trying to recapture the structure.  Like, my struggle to make it up for AM workouts.  That has slipped and right now I'm not fighting it.  I like my sleep and I'm not training for anything in particular , yet.

But, I have been augmenting my nutrition with the help of Em with supplements.  I can maintain weight, but with today's processing of foods, I don't get everything I need.  She added in some green tea extract for energy and I'm wondering if we may need to tweak that.  I had limited choices for breakfast this morning, drank my vice diet pop and now I'm jittery and it's not cool.  More on why my choices were limited later.

I brought that up to share THIS.  It's written by IM coach Troy and talks about the off-season for different types of athletes.

Training, for what? Ebay issues...

In reviewing my totals last week, I spiked on time and workouts... what gives?
For one, Em has a renewed interest in hitting the gym.  Saturday I got in extra work that otherwise would not have happened when we hit the gym and dropped kiddos off at the child care area.  We hit the spin class.  While I'm not a fan of spin, if you put some effort into it, you will get something out regardless of the quality of instructor.  Not to say ours was bad that day, but she lacked the ability to discern when we were to up the tension or effort.  Suddenly she was standing and we didn't know it was time to stand on the pedals... that and she stopped in the middle to walk around and give out fist bumps.  That's different.

On a side note, our daughter likes to tell people that we leave them at the gym when we drive by.  Like... we drop her off for daycare and leave the gym to run errands or something.  Ah the things that go through a 3 year old's mind.

So I came close to the 3 of 3 plan.  3 bike, run and swim workouts.

I only missed 1 bike workout and added 3 weight sessions!  Bonus!

Last week's numbers...
Biking - 40.3 miles
Running - 19.25 miles
Swimming - 3.69 miles... I think around 6500 yards?  Missing the converting calculator today.
Total Time - 9:16 hours

Did you ever have that problem on Ebay?
Right now I'm in dispute over a purchase.  Auction style with fixed shipping price.  No mention of any adjustments for shipping ANYWHERE in the auction.  So I bid, only bidder, and I won.

I get an email saying that shipping is now Y instead of X (that I promptly paid after auction ended) and I owe the difference of Z before they will ship.

WTF?  Has this happened to anyone before?  What did you do?  Stick to your guns or pay extra or get your money back????

Needed Pictures

Saturday's run in the snow was epic.  Man vs nature... the temps weren't the issue, the issue was that residents didn't shovel their sidewalks.  Sure, it made the workout tougher to run in 6 inches of snow, but on some spots I had to run in the street, no good.

I wish I would have snapped a few pictures, but I didn't want to stop my momentum.  For those of you that run in snow on a regular basis, props.  I compare it to running on trails in mud.

Did I use super advanced YakTraxs or something?  No.  Outdoor soccer cleats.  They worked pretty sweet except for wearing too low cut socks and rubbing a nice blister on one foot.

High alert!  TriVillage is having 15% off sale right now!  Check it out.  Buy me something...!  =)

TRAINING
Got a solid week in last week.  I counted the hour and 15 minutes of shoveling snow as weight lifting... I mean, it was solid snow.  That made the week numbers look even better in addition to trudging through snow on Saturday.  I need to start focusing on pool time now.

Last week:
57 miles biking - all on trainer - bleh
15.75 miles running
5500 yards swimming
9.1 hours total

EXAMINER
Little article sharing what I learned at Church lately.  No, not only about religion but how to apply that to the real world and time management.

The Day Before

KC Marathon, So far so good.  Need to pick up my race packet and get some gels for the marathon tomorrow.  I might also look for some cheap running pants to start in and ditch as it's suppose to be in the 50's for the morning and high 60's to low 70's by the time I'm hoping to be done.  I'd rather have the chill than heat and humidity that was around for Hospital Hill in June.

Ran my last run yesterday morning which was a brisk 6 miler around 8:30 minute miles.  I was hoping for faster splits but I didn't want to push it so close to go time.  It felt good, no lingering sore spots... as Korn would say, "let's get this party started!".

On the home front Liam is doing good.  Still having some reflux issues but nothing requiring hospitalization.  Speaking of... got his NICU bill for his first week... it was not cheap.  Lets just say I think I cashed in all of the insurance premiums I've ever paid.  Insurance paid off.  I hate paying the co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance but I have to keep in mind that we would be in the poor house without it for Liam.

Also rolling out a novel idea.  I'm venturing into Multisport Sponsorship.  No, I'm not sponsored (yet), but I'm starting a little side project to match competitive age group athletes with companies looking to get their name and brand out in unique ways without paying thousands of dollars.  A la Carte pricing with varying ways to get their logo or text out.  Check it out.

Right now I'm the only athlete on there, but I'm looking for the project to get some legs and gain steam and add more athletes.  I was tired of the yearly rejection from major sponsors (ZIPP, GU, Clif Bars, etc...) so I'm looking at unique and affordable ways for companies to use their marketing dollars on what I feel is an un-tapped resource of people willing to spread the word.

Check it out.  Always looking for critiques Constructive Advice if anyone out there sees room for improvement.  =)

And in closing here's some random Ebay and Examiner tid bits.  Happy racing out there this weekend!

Some clipless bike pedals for auction on ebay if you are looking for some.
