Enjoy some pictures from the 2013 Groundhog Run 10k!

I know they'll be your favorite as well!

Rounding the last turn to the finish.  I was hurting at that point.  Notice the nasty heel strike and the poor arm positioning... at least I won't have to worry about never having anything to improve on my running form.  ;)

Classic finish line shot of the one-legged pirate hitting the stop button on my watch.

Trying to kick it out to the finish line.

My @wheaties made the move!

So I have found just about everything I moved...
There was some frantic searches for bike helmets, DVD's and assorted items for reviews for the old blog.  But, I'm happy to report that my Wheaties from being on Team Wheaties made the move without injury!

If you have moved a household, then you are in the same boat where your nice furniture will get dinged.  85% of our gear got some sort of mark from moving and you can's avoid it unless you pack it all yourself, or pay someone twice the amount to move it to wrap every piece in 2 blankets.

But, the box carrying the precious Wheaties cargo made it without a scratch.  All boxes of cereal came through the other side none the worse for wear.  It's now unpacked and safely resides in the Tri Gear area in the basement.

And, just to be safe, I had to try a bowl last night for dessert.  Mmmm...

If you are running the KC Marathon (or half like I am due to injury), keep an eye out for me in my Wheaties gear.  I'll have on either an orange tech tee or the Wheaties running kit.  I'll also bring coupons so you can get some Wheaties down your gullet at a discount!

Better Eat Your @Wheaties - #TeamWheaties

As you have seen by now, I'm hip with Wheaties...
I was selected to be a Team Wheaties Ambassador around the beginning of August of this year.

Why is that super awesome way cool gnarly!?

I'm a cereal junkie.  It's one of my weaknesses (one of many, but I don't want to air all of the laundry today).  I'll eat cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  When the family is having a YOYO night for dinner, Em is often mystified how I can just subsist on a bowl of cereal.  It's just good stuff.

But, Wheaties is a whole new level.  I've been on the Wheaties Fuel bandwagon for a while as well as the regular Wheaties.  I mean, what triathlete wouldn't eat the cereal that showcased Chris McCormack on the box after he won Kona a second time?

In addition to tasting kick-ass, the 100% whole grain flakes in Wheaties provide your body with complex carbohydrates that can be digested more slowly to provide a constant and consistent supply of energy. This is essential, especially when activity levels are high, like in the hours after breakfast or when working out. Carbohydrates are also the preferred fuel for muscle and the nervous system, therefore low carbohydrate levels can result in poor performance and fatigue during physical activity.

I joined Team Wheaties because I want to support brands that are making an impact in the athletic community. Wheaties cereal is designed to fuel performance and a Wheaties breakfast provides long-lasting energy from whole grain.

So, when you're at the grocery store looking for healthy options that's better that tasteless rice cakes, look for some Wheaties!

When vacation doesn't mean vacation

When you are moving, vacation isn't vacation...
Took the week off to move.  Oh joy.

Between our buyer having issues closing on time and the hoops our lender is making us jump through, packing and actually moving our crud is the least of our concerns...

But at least we can jam in a birthday!
It's Wee Man's 2nd birthday and from his start in the world, he's had some rough sledding.  He's even threatening to need to go to the hospital today with a bad cough and possible pneumonia.  Good times!

Sadly he didn't enjoy his birthday party too much being sickly and just not feeling well.

So, at least 9/11 doesn't carry the meaning for us that most of the world perceives.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Time to get back to moving.
Time to have some Breakfast of Champions!

Training numbers and post-season thoughts

The triathlon season around Kansas City is over...
And now I'm in maintenance and intensity mode.  My workouts are a little shorter with more intensity, so my volume is down for the week.  It's hard not to want to trudge out there for some long miles on the bike just to feel "normal".  =)

The swimming, biking and running are a way of life and sometimes it doesn't feel natural to scale it back when I don't have any triathlons on the immediate front.  The KC Triathlon might be my next race and that's next May.

Realizing you don't have any short term race goals is like waking up to an empty box of Wheaties... very disparaging.

On the training numbers front...
The total training time is relatively high with strength work and more workouts at shorter intervals mixed in.

With the holiday mixed in last weekend, we had limited opportunities to run or bike on the weekend since:
A.  It rained all day Friday, Saturday and a lot of Sunday
B.  We didn't have a gym around in SE MO.
C.  We had two small kids with us and only my Grandmother as option for kid supervision, which isn't a good idea.  She's not down with that game these days.
D.  I guess you're suppose to relax on vacations... while your near 2 year old can't sleep away from home and keeps you up all night.

BIKING - 46 miles over 3 workouts
RUNNING - 16 miles - need to start bumping up for KC Marathon
SWIMMING - 7100 yards
TOTAL MILES - 64.75 miles
TOTAL TIME - 8:21

But at least I have the KC marathon...
October 20th, 26.2 miles.  Something to keep me motivated to run since I'm not a cyclocross guy and there's not much else for endurance peeps in the fall in winter in Kansas City.

So.... the running numbers SHOULD go up!

#TeamWheaties and Active Ambassador - how did I get there?

What and how did it happen?
You've heard me mention it a few times, but it's true!  I've been picked to be 1 of 100 athletes for Team Wheaties!  It's pretty awesome, I won't lie.

In all reality, applying for Team Wheaties when I was invited was a no-brainer.  I LOVE the stuff and Wheaties Fuel is the BOMB!  I eat the stuff by the truck load, so I might as well official back them.  Know what I'm saying?

We get hooked up with apparel, Wheaties and best of all for you all, discounts to offer my "fans", or as I like to say, the 3 to 4 of you that read this blog on a consistent basis.  ;)  I kid.  Find me at any Kansas City area race and score some coupons and get the low down if Wheaties is fluff or tough!
